Temporary buildings can be a tremendously convenient way to create much-needed shelter quickly and easily, and they are used everywhere from schools to scrapyards and isolated construction sites. However, most large temporary buildings cannot simply be dumped wherever they are needed, and some variety of temporary foundation is required to keep the building level and stable during its time in a temporary location.

In the past, temporary foundations were essentially stripped-down versions of traditional, permanent concrete foundations, and required a considerable amount of effort and manpower to place and remove. However, modern temporary foundations are commonly screw pile foundations, which use steel piles rather than solid concrete to hold temporary buildings steady. It's easy to see why these simple foundations are so popular, and screw pile foundations have a number of advantages over other temporary foundation types:

Quick and easy to install

As their name would suggest, screw piles are screwed directly into the earth using specialised equipment, a fast and relatively simple process that requires very little preliminary excavation. Additionally, screw piles are ready to be used immediately after installation, unlike concrete foundations which must be allowed to dry and set. This combination of advantages makes installing a building with screw pile foundations remarkably quick and easy, without the need to transport large amounts of equipment or concrete to isolated sites.

Quick and easy to remove

By the same token, screw piles are extremely easy to remove once the building has served its purpose. The are simply unscrewed from the ground, a process that requires no excavation and leaves very limited ground damage that can easily be filled in.

Recyclable

Unlike concrete foundations, screw piles are removed in one piece, and they are generally reusable (although they occasionally become too badly distorted due to shifting soil conditions). This makes them particularly useful for businesses that relocate often and require temporary structures in a variety of areas, and it also helps to lower installation costs and reduce your installation's environmental impact.

Inexpensive

Screw piles are significantly cheaper to purchase than the amounts of liquid concrete required for temporary concrete foundations. They do not require special storage or transportation vehicles, and they require much less skilled manpower to install. This makes both purchasing and installing screw pile foundations considerably less expensive than concrete foundations. The decreased amount of downtime you experience before your building is ready is particularly useful for construction work, where starting on a project as soon as possible is vital for your profit margins.

Suitable for urban areas

Screw piles may be ideal for providing foundations to isolated temporary buildings, but they are also well-suited for inner-city purposes. Installing them does not alter ground levels significantly, and involves very little sound or air pollution, making them ideal for urban use where low impact on surrounding areas is vital.
